The Boats
For exploring the "skinny" waters found in the sounds, creeks and salt water marshes of the Southern Outer Banks we use a 17' long, 6.5' wide flat bottom skiff. Requiring less than 6 inches of water to float, the flat bottom design provides a stable platform for casting a line or composing a photograph. The 50 horsepower Johnson motor provides sufficient speed to get where we need to be without a big waste of time. When working in shallow water we'll use a pole to quietly propel he boat in order to avoid startling spooky game fish and wildlife.
Currently undergoing refurbishing for 2004, for fishing and touring outside the inlet we have a comfortable 25' Pacemaker Sportfish style boat. Powered by a 350 cubic inch engine, she has plenty of power to get you there an back. The dry cabin area will seat up to 6, and the rear cockpit provides plenty of space for fishing. Equipped with out-riggers and rod-holders it's excellent boat for Spanish and King Mackerel fishing. As this boat also has a sturdy swim platform and fins-on boarding ladder it could serve double duty as an inshore and near coastal scuba diving platform.
Both boats are equipped with VHF Marine Radio, Type-I Personal Flotation Devices (Life vests), emergency signalling devices, first aid kits, fire extinguishes and meet or exceed U.S. Coast Guard requirements. For charters involving scuba diving activities, emergency Oxygen will be on hand. In addition to required communications equipment a cell phone is always brought along.
