[Fishing is a year round activity along North Carolina's Southern Outer Banks]

The Fishing

On all inshore fishing charters we provide a cooler of ice with a selection of bottled water and soft-drinks, tackle if requested and bait/lures we've found to be productive. You're more than welcome to bring along your favorite tackle and are encouraged to bring a snack and/or some lunch. The weather can change quickly, dress in layers to be prepared for temperature changes. You may want to bring along some rain gear as well.

For those anglers needing tackle with have available light weight open face spinning gear, 9 weight fly fishing gear for drum and larger game fish, and 7 weight light fly tackle to make the speckled trout fishing really interesting. We do ask that you let us know in advance if you plan to use our rods and reels.

[Bring your own fishing tackle or use ours]

Redfish, Red Drum, Puppy Drum

North Carolina's state fish, the Red Drum provides esciting year round fishing opportunities in our marshes, creeks and sounds. Tempted with topwater plugs, jigs, live bait or flys, this is primarily sight fishing in water less than 3 feet deep. State law allows taking one fish per day, 18" to 27" in length, so this is mostly catch and release fishing. Book your trip in August or September if you're looking for the big 30, 40, 50 pound fish!

[Redfish, the North Carolina State fish, is a popular target for salt water fly fishing]

Speckled Trout, Grey Trout, Weakfish

While these popular fish can be caught year round, Spring and Fall present the best sea trout fishing opportunities. The rock jetties at Cape Lookout, Shakleford Banks and Radio Island often times provide excellent action for these fistey little game fish. Spinning reel tactics include jigs, mirror lures and live bait such as shrimp. Fly casters may find a clouser to be an excellent selection.

[Sea trout provide are excellent little fighting fish]

Flounder

Spring through Fall, flounder are a popular target for N.C. fishermen. Best caught using live bait, it isn't unheard of for a "flat fish" to surprise a fly fishermam while casting shallow waters. Drift fishing the inlet or behind Shacleford banks can result in a boat load of these delicious fish.

[All the local fishermen dream of landing a doormatt sized flounder]

Bluefish

The best action on these valiant little warriors is in the Spring and Fall, with the latter likely producing the hottest fishery. Sight fishing with poppers for Blues in the inlet is popular with both Spinning and Fly fishermen.

[Bluefish action can be quite hot in the fall]

Other Local Game Fish

  • Spanish Mackerel (June - October)
  • King Mackerel (May - November)
  • Stripped Bass (December - March)
  • False Albacore (March, April, and October - December)
  • Tarpon (July & August)

[Saltwater fly fishing or light tackle spinning gear works well in in North Carolina]
